Sorcery Sunday: Janus

SORCERY SUNDAY: Janus

Today is Sorcery Sunday! For anyone not familiar with Sorcery Sunday, it is the day I post about a god or goddess. They can be from any culture or period in time. Today’s post is a slightly edited repost of the god Janus. The month of January was named for Janus and so it is only appropriate that we have a post about him for the first Sunday of the year.

Janus is the Roman god of time. He has two faces and looks to the future and the past simultaneously. He presides over beginnings, endings, gateways, doorways, bridges, corridors, and change. He is believed to be one of the primordial gods or titans. When he is invoked, it is often done in association with another god such as Jupiter.

The nature of Janus is one of the most debated topics among modern scholars, and because of that you find many different descriptions of who he was and what he represented.

Well, that’s it for now! Blessed be!
