Thaumaturgist Thursday: Garnets (repost)

Image
THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Garnet Today is Thaumaturgist Thursday, the day make a post about the uses of stones in magic. I hope you enjoy this repost about garnets. Garnets are gemstones that come in various shades of red and are associated with fire. They are the birthstone for January, and are considered a very lucky gift, and very unlucky to steal. Centuries ago, they were used to drive away evil spirits and demons. They are said to be powerful protection stones that warn you of danger, bring harm to your enemies, and cause those who would harm you to become spooked and leave. Garnets are also good for love, especially in the form of passion. Because of this they are often used to increase the libido. Some people use them to attract a compatible companion. They can also be used to obtain power and wealth. In short, there are many uses for garnets in the magical world. I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about January’s birthday. Have a great day. Blessed be. https://www.e

Witchy Wednesday: Snowdrops

Image
Witchy Wednesday: Snowdrops For anyone who does not know or has forgotten, Witchy Wednesday is the day I post about herbs, spices, and other plants. I write both about their magical and medicinal properties. Some of the plants I write about are ones I am very familiar with and some I learn about as I write the post, so this is often a learning experience for me as well. Snowdrops, or Galanthus, are one of the birth-month flowers for January. It is thought to symbolize hope, purity, innocence, and sympathy. One of the unique traits this plant possesses is the ability to generate their own heat. They often melt the snow around them. They grow best in cooler, wetter climates, and bloom in the early spring. If you wish to plant snowdrops in your garden, you should plant the bulbs in well drained soil during the early fall. Since I live in a high desert climate and they do not like to grow here, I do not have any personal experience with snowdrops. It should be noted that snowdrops

Witchtip Tuesday: Karma Repost

Image
After a few of the things I have had happen over the last couple of weeks, I think it might be a good time to repost this. I’ve seen a lot of evidence to support the idea that the energy you put out comes back to you in a magnified form after several recent events. I know it’s tough sometimes but try to keep the negativity under control, so it doesn’t poison your environment. I hope you enjoy this repost and blessed be. WITCH TIP TUESDAY! Always be aware of your “Karma.” When you perform magic of any kind there is always a price. This is true for all aspects of life, but for now we will only focus on the magical implications. Whatever you put out in a spell, you get back a minimum of three times and as many as ten. A lot of people refer to this as karma and for the sake of keeping this post fairly short, so shall we. It always amazes me how many people seem to think they can escape karma, especially in magic. You can’t. Even if you stop practicing magic, you will still have t

THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Moldavite

Image
THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Moldavite Moldavite was formed when a meteorite stuck the earth and super-heated the surrounding rock creating the green stones we know today. It is believed to have been from an event that occurred 15 million years ago in Germany. This stone is best for boosting psychic energies and summoning extraterrestrial energies. It is often used for divination because of its connection to the future. Some people use it to contact alien life. My personal observation is that moldavite has an unusual texture, and the energy feels strange. I hope you enjoyed reading. Have a great day! WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Rosemary

Image
WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Rosemary Rosemary can be used in spring cleaning and I am sick, so it is getting a repost! Rosemary is a fragrant herb that most people either love or hate. Its scent creates strong reactions in people and there is very little middle ground because of that. It is a very versatile herb regardless of how you feel about it, and today we’re going to explore some of that. Medicinally, Rosemary is considered and antimicrobial, which means it can be used to combat microscopic organisms. Some people say that it can be used as an antibiotic, but I’ve always had better luck using it to combat fungus. It is also said to have antidepressant properties and is known to help soothe the stomach. Some people even use it as a pain killer. Medicinally, rosemary is a great herb to have around. Rosemary has numerous magical uses including protection, mental strengths (especially memory), purification, healing, love, lust, and is thought to help a person sleep. One of the easiest

WITCHTIP TUESDAY: Magic While You’re Ill

Image
WITCHTIP TUESDAY: Magic While You’re Ill You should never try to do any form of magic while you’re ill. If you already have a cold, flu, of some other form of sickness, your energy is already drained, and you should not drain it further by using magic. Trust me, the spell you want to do can wait until you’re well. Rest up until you feel better. Have a great week! Blessed be! #theaviditywitch #witchtiptuesday #witchtip #witch #witches #pagan #magic #nomagicwhilesick

SORCERY SUNDAY: Februus

Image
SORCERY SUNDAY: Februus Februus was the Roman god of purification. He is one of the lesser-known gods and may be associated with the god Pluto. He is the patron god of the spring festival Februalia which is a time of cleaning and washing. The month of February is named for the god Februus. If you need help with cleaning this spring, be sure to call on Februus for assistance. Have a great week! THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Kyanite

Image
THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Kyanite Kyanite, in my opinion, can best be described as an empathy stone. It helps the person wearing it understand gain compassion and understanding in those around them. It helps to remove ignorance and fear. It helps us to understand how our past affects our present, especially when it comes to our karma. This stone is known to help connect us to our guardians and guides, and it helps us draw in positive and healing energies from the universe. Because of these properties it can be very good for helping to relieve stress. You also never have to cleanse it like many other stones. Its high energy takes care of that for you. I hope you enjoyed this post. Have a great day! WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Lavender

Image
WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Lavender Fun fact: according to my Witches’ Spell-a-Day Almanac, lavender is the incense of the day! Lavender is an old-world plant and can be found on the continents of Europe, Asia, and Africa. The flowers are usually lavender colored and small. The scent is consistent across the genus and is often used for aromatherapy. Medicinally, lavender flowers can be used for relaxation, sleep, fighting depression, and pain relief. One of the best headache cures I’ve found is the scent of lavender, which I prefer to get from lavender flowers. The scent clears my sinuses and relieves pressure. Lavender can be used in both herbal and essential oil, but the essential oil should never be taken internally. Lavender is considered safe for most people, but it is not safe for your dog of your cat. Magically, lavender can be used for love, purification, sleep, peace, and happiness. You can burn lavender as an incense, use it in a potion, or place the dried herb in a sachet,

MAGICIANS MONDAY: Runes

Image
MAGICIANS MONDAY: Runes Runes are an ancient alphabet that was first developed in Germany and then moved west to Scandinavian countries. There are three major forms of the runic alphabets: The Elder Futhark, the Anglo-Saxon, and the Younger Futhark. Because most rune stones are made up of the Elder Futhark runes, we will focus on those. Each rune in the elder futhark represents both a sound and at least one object. Because of this, runes can be challenging to decipher. Runes, like many ancient alphabets, were considered to be magical by the people that used them. In rune lore, runes are often associated with Odin. Some stories say that he ripped out his own eye in order to learn their full potential. The goddess Freya is also said to have a strong understanding of the runes. Today, runes are often used to foretell the future. There are many methods of using them for this purpose. The rune symbols can also be used in spells and carved into other magical tools to instill the powe

SORCERY SUNDAY: Cupid

Image
SORCERY SUNDAY: Cupid Happy Valentine's Day! Cupid is the Roman god of sex, love, and desire. Unlike his Greek counterpart Eros who is portrayed as a beautiful young man, Cupid is most often portrayed as a young child or infant. He is said to be the son of Venus and Mars and is often portrayed as being one of the Amores. It is said that both people and gods turn to Cupid for help when they are in love with someone. Well, that’s it for today! Have a great day! Blessed be! P.S. Just a quick reminder that I have a Valentine/Galentine sale going in my Etsy shop. Everything is on sale for 25 to 70% until February 15th. THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Rose Quartz

Image
THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Rose Quartz Rose quartz is a stone that is associated with unconditional love. It can be used to draw love to you, support relationships that you’re in, to heal the heart and the heart chakra, achieve forgiveness, and overcome grief. It’s strong association with love makes it the perfect gift to give on Valentine’s Day, whether you’re giving it to someone else or to yourself. Have a great day and thanks for reading! Blessed be! WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Roses

Image
WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Roses Roses are a beautiful flowers that come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. They can be found throughout the world, and there are species that are native on several continents. They are often associated with romance and are often exchanged on Valentine’s Day. Medicinally, roses can be used as a mild sedative, anti-microbial, laxative, and antiseptic. Magically, roses can be used for love, protection, divination, lust, good fortune, and healing. Like jasmine, roses are a delicate flower with a fragile fragrance and flavor. If you are going to make an essential oil or tea from rose petals, you must not use a high temperature or else the scent and flavor will become bitter. So, you must use a low temperature over a longer period of time with roses. I hope you enjoyed today’s post. Have a great day. Blessed be! P.S. Just a quick reminder that I have a Valentine/Galentine sale going in my Etsy shop. Everything is on sale for 25 to 70% until February 15th.

WITCHTIP TUESDAY: Consent

Image
WITCHTIP TUESDAY: Consent Let me start by saying that I have very strong feelings about love spells. There are very few that I feel are acceptable, and that is because most of the love spells out there involve removing someone’s ability to consent to romantic interactions. As a sexual assault survivor, I understand the damage that is done to someone who has their ability to refuse or consent taken away. I feel that love spells that make someone believe that they are in love with someone else are mind control, a violation of that person’s being, and should never be done. They are akin to rape in my eyes. If you want to use a spell that will draw in love from the universe, go for it. You won’t be taking away anyone’s consent by doing so. Want a spell to help you find your true love? Go for it. Your true love is someone you will meet eventually anyway. You will not violate them by asking them to show up sooner. Want to make a spell to learn to love yourself? Go for it. When you love y

MAGICIANS MONDAY: The Book of Shadows

Image
MAGICIANS MONDAY: The Book of Shadows A Book of Shadows or Grimoire is a witch’s book of spells. If you see these books in movies and television shows, they are usually leather-bound monstrosities covered in dust and archaic writing. I have yet to meet a witch that owns one that looks like that. Every witch’s spell book I’ve ever seen, to be honest I’ve only seen a few because witches tend to be secretive about their spell books, has either been a nice journal or a regular notebook. Both work perfectly well and there is no real need to buy an expensive book to keep your spells in. Keep that in mind if you come across a snobby witch who tells you that you have to buy an expensive book to write your spells in. The books in the photos are my grimoires. The black book on the left is one I bought 20 years ago. It has thick blank pages perfect for drawing diagrams and writing out instructions on how to complete spells. It cost me $15 and was fairly expensive for that point in my life.

SUNDAY SORCERY: Aphrodite

Image
SUNDAY SORCERY: Aphrodite Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love, sex, and beauty. She was born from sea foam that was believed to have come from Uranus’s testicles that were thrown into the sea after his son Cronos cut them off. Yes, really. The Greeks had some pretty raunchy stories about how things came into being. They’re quite interesting to read if you aren’t easily offended. Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus, the god of the forge, but she had many affairs with both gods and mortals. The most notable being her affair with Ares, which is how Eros came into being according to some accounts. If you choose to call on Aphrodite for assistance in any spells it is important to remember that she is a very jealous and sensitive goddess, particularly when it comes to her beauty. As the goddess of beauty, she is the most beautiful thing in existence, and you must never say that something or someone is as beautiful as she is or more beautiful than she is. She will see it as an insu

THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Amethyst Repost

Image
THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Amethyst Repost I know I’ve done a post for amethyst before, but it’s the birthstone for February so I figured I would do it again. Amethyst is purple quartz. It comes in many different shades and has many different uses. The most common use is preventing intoxication. This idea comes from the ancient Greeks and the name amethyst, which comes from them, literally means “not intoxicated.” I can be worn, or a piece can be put in your glass to prevent intoxication. It can also help overcome and heal from substance abuse. Amethyst is also good for psychiatric healing and helps overcome nightmares. It is thought to bring peace to the mind. Amethyst can be used for protection, bravery, love, and finding happiness. Amethyst is a beautiful and prized stone. It has been collected and made into jewelry for several millennia and will probably continue to be for many more. Thanks for reading. Blessed be. https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheAvidityWitch #theaviditywit

WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Jasmine

Image
WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Jasmine Jasmine is a delicate white flower that is believed to be native to the Himalayas and has been spread throughout Asia and the rest of the world by human cultivation. It has many uses both medicinally and magically. It is also an expensive herb to buy, and true jasmine (the real jasmine essential oil) is very expensive because the process to make it is difficult and takes a long time. True jasmine is often used to make perfume. Medicinally, jasmine is used to treat insomnia, depression, liver disease, and diarrhea. It can also be used to prevent stroke and to increase libido. Jasmine is made into a tea when it is intended to be taken internally and is used as an essential oil when used topically. Magically, jasmine is used for love spells, to gain money, and to increase psychic powers. It can be used as an oil, an incense, a tea, or added to bottle spells and sachets in its dried herb form. It is a versatile herb to use in magic. If you are making a t

WITCHTIP TUESDAY: Moon Cycle

Image
WITCHTIP TUESDAY: Moon Cycle Where the moon is at in its cycle can have a big affect on how well your spell performs. For instance, if you cast a spell that you want to gain in power then you should do it during the waxing moon. If you want to do a banishing, you should do it during the waning moon. The waxing moon is the period time after the new moon and before the full moon, and the waning moon is the period after the full moon and before the new moon. Many spells require you to do them on the full moon in order to be their most powerful, but not all spells are designed this way so don’t automatically assume that’s when you need to cast your spell. For best results remember that if you want to gain something you cast during the waxing moon, and if you want to lose something you cast during the waning moon. If you aren’t sure whether you’re in the waxing or waning moon, there are several websites online that tell you where the moon is at in its cycle. You can also find calendars

MAGICIANS MONDAY: The Chalice

Image
MAGICIANS MONDAY: The Chalice Happy Imbolc! Today is Imbolc or St. Brigid’s Day, and is recognized as the beginning of spring in some pagan religions. The chalice is associated with Imbolc so it will be the tool we look at today. The chalice is one of those magical tools that isn’t always thought of as a magical tool. It is often thought of as being a symbol for water and the goddess. However, it is used in magical rituals and therefore is a tool. The chalice or goblet is used to hold water, wine, and any other beverage that is used in ritual. Traditionally the chalice is silver or silver colored, but acidic fluids can eat away at the metal so silver-plated metal can be dangerous. Pewter can also be dangerous since some varieties contain lead, and copper can become toxic when used with acid drinks. Because of this, many witches have started to use glass or ceramic cups, glasses, and goblets. While not traditional, they are a safer option. Most would tell you that whatever the cha
